The Mobile Mammography Unit (MMU) of the Hellenic Cancer Society (HCS) visited Crete, offering free mammogram screenings to more than 400 women from vulnerable population groups (unemployed & uninsured). Furthermore, on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, 50 free mammograms were performed in the Hellenic Police Headquarters, in collaboration with the Women’s Secretariat of the Panhellenic Federation of Police Officers.

These specific activities are part of the “MAST movement for Breast Cancer!” campaign, which is realized with the support of ELPEN and the organizing contribution of KEDE and EDDYPPY. Importantly, this is an activity of significant social contribution for ELPEN, since the company does not produce, nor does it market oncological drugs. Within this context, the MMU of the HCS visited the municipality of Heraklion, on March 13th & 14th; on March 15th & 16th, the MMU visited the municipality of Rethymno, while on March 17th & 18th, the Unit made its final stop at the municipality of Chania.

The aim of this campaign is to offer information about the prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer. The program has already traveled to several cities of the Greek periphery (Larissa, Alexandroupolis, Kavala, Xanthi, Mytelene, Rhodes and others), as well as other areas within Athens and Piraeus.

Breast cancer is the most frequent malignancy affecting Greek women nowadays, with more than 5000 female individuals being diagnosed every year. In fact, according to official data, if diagnosed early enough, this particular disease has an increased chance of complete cure.

ELPEN supports this valuable journey of the HCS, hereby confirming its sincere social sensitivity, since the company does not produce, nor does it market oncological drugs.
