In the context of the "1st International Congress of Controlled Release Society – Greek local chapter", which was held on the 27th and 28th of May, 2015, ELPEN Chairman, Mr. Dimitrios Pentafragas, received an award by the CRS (Controlled Release Society) organization, for his long-standing research activity.


ELPEN Chairman and Founder, Mr. Dimitrios Pentafragas, was honored for the third time within the 2014‐2015 period, for his long‐standing research activity. At the "Small Molecules (Original‐Generics) and Biotechnological Drugs (Biosimilars)" Conference, research and appliedissues about classic and biotechnological drugs were presented; these issues pertainedto drug discovery and design, the nanotechnology required for the formation of variouspharmaceutical forms, as well as the importance of pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics for research and development, and for rational drug usage.

In this context, having contributed for 50 years, through the work of ELPEN and its exemplary Experimental & Research Center, to the promotion of pharmaceutical research and innovation, Mr. Pentafragas was awarded for his invention: the innovative Elpenhaler® device – a device for the treatment of Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, which currently has been awarded patents in 100 countries.

Upon receiving the award, Mr. Pentafragas emphasized that: "Today, ELPEN is one of the most significant and pioneering pillars of the Greek Pharmaceutical Industry, actively contributing to the national effort for growth. This award is a great honor for us, as it regards an innovation such as Elpenhaler®, a device which was developed in Greece and carries the seal of Greek scientists. We have, therefore, taken a major step towards the realization of ELPEN's vision, which is to contribute to a higher quality of life for our fellow man, through innovative and reliable Greek drugs, not only within our country, but also worldwide. Elpenhaler® has managed to open new paths for the company itself, for the Greek scientific community, as well as for our country's exports."
