On November 10th and 11th, 2016, the Mobile Mammography Unit (MMU) of the Hellenic Cancer Society (HCS) visited the Municipality of Piraeus, offering free mammography screening to more than 70 women from vulnerable population groups (unemployed & uninsured). This particular activity runs within the context of the “MAST movement for Breast Cancer!” campaign, which is realized with the support of ELPEN and the organizing contribution of KEDE and EDDYPPY.

The purpose of the campaign is to inform about breast cancer prevention and early diagnosis. The campaign has already travelled to numerous cities across the peripheral regions of Greece (Larissa, Alexandroupolis, Kavala, Xanthi, Mytelene and others), while it recently visited the Athens Retirement Home and the Town Hall of Agia Paraskevi.

With the invaluable support of the Piraeus Municipality, the HCS’s Mobile Mammography Unit settled at Dragatsi pedestrian walkway on Thursday, November 10th, and at «Gennimata» Park, Kaminia, on Friday, November 11th, where it contributed to the prevention of the most frequent malignancy affecting nowadays Greek women: breast cancer. Of note, every year, more than 5.000 Greek women are diagnosed with this disease, which, according to official data, has increased chances of complete cure, if diagnosed early enough.

ELPEN supports this priceless journey of HCS, taking charge of repairing and reopening its MMU, and supporting the “MAST movement for Breast cancer!” campaign. This constitutes, in fact, the culmination of numerous Corporate Social Responsibility activities in which the company has engaged over many years, thus proving that its presence within the Greek society is a product of social engagement. On the same time, it confirms the company’s sincere social sensibility, by sponsoring an activity that does not involve commercial purposes for ELPEN (ELPEN does not produce, nor does it market oncological drugs).
