ELPEN's Vice President and the newly elected President of the Panhellenic Union of Pharmaceutical Industries (PEF), Mr. Theodore Tryfon, together with the Archbishop of Athens and Greece, Ieronymos II, inaugurated the Central Social Pharmacy of the General Charity Fund of the Archdiocese of Athens, on Wednesday, October 15, 2014.

Following a long-standing and constant collaboration between the Archdiocese of Athens and PEF, this specific action is aimed at covering the healthcare expenses of the uninsured, the unemployed, and all vulnerable groups of our society, living in a total of 145 parishes which belong to the Archdiocese of Athens. PEF has undertaken to exclusively supply pharmacies with quality Greek drugs, without any financial burden, in order to cover all primary healthcare categories, including both prescribed and OTC drugs, as well as parapharmaceutical products.

His Excellency, Mr. Ieronymos II, Archbishop of Athens and Greece, performed the sacred blessing of the inaugural ceremony, warmly thanking PEF for its support. His Excellency stated during the event: "The Church today, provides a small stepping stone towards a great endeavor with extremely noble intentions. In this endeavor we have found a willing ally in the Panhellenic Union of Pharmaceutical Industries."

In the context of the inaugural ceremony, Mr. Tryfon stated that the Greek pharmaceutical industry will always endorse such initiatives aimed at providing relief and care for the vulnerable social groups, particularly in the face of our country's extremely grave current circumstances. Mr. Tryfon went on to say, among other things: "The Greek pharmaceutical industry can adequately cover in great part, the needs of the country's population with high quality Greek pharmaceutical products. Consequently, we place our potential under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Athens, and we are fully committed to remain in the frontline, so that in Europe's Greece of 2015, no Greek will be left out without proper medical and pharmaceutical care."
