The 3rd International TeachingCourse on GastrointestinalEndoscopy took place at ELPEN's Experimental - ResearchCenter, in collaboration with the Endoscopy Section of the Hellenic Society of Gastroenterology (HSG), and the Hellenic Society of Gastrointestinal Oncology; the Seminarwas completed in the presence of Mr. Takero Mori, Deputy Head of the Embassy of Japan in Greece.

 


After attending the Seminar of high scientific interest, 44 trainees from Greece, Cyprus and other European countries (Germany, Spain, Czech Republic) had the honor of receiving a participation diploma certified with CME (Continuous Medical Education) credits by the honorable Mr. Takero Mori. The Seminar took place on the 23rd and 24th of January, 2015, under the auspices of the European Society of Digestive Oncology (ESDO) and the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE).

Participants attended 2,5 hours of theoretical lectures and followed 6 hours of hands-on practical training on modern endoscopy techniques that were taught by, among others, the internationally renowned Gastroenterologists, Professor Hiroshi Kashida (Kinki University, School of Medicine, Osaka, Japan), YoriakiKomeda (Kinki University, Department of Gastroenterology, Osaka, Japan), TakataroFukuhara (Department of Molecular Genetics, Institute of Biomedical Science, Department of Gastroenterology &Hepatology, Kansai Medical University, Osaka, Japan), and Arjun Koch (Erasmus University, Medical Center, Rotterdam, The Netherlands). The Seminar was organized by:Mr. Dimitris Christodoulou, Associate Professor, School of Medicine, University of Ioannina and President of the Endoscopy Section of the Hellenic Society of Gastroenterology, Mr. Konstantinos Delis, MD PhD, Gastroenterologist, Director of Gastroenterology Clinic, "Metropolitan" Hospital, Mr. Panagiotis Kassapidis, Director of Gastroenterology Clinic, "Central Clinic" of Athens, Prof. J.K. Triantafillidis, PhD, Gastroenterologist, President of the Hellenic Society of Gastrointestinal Oncology, Director,IBD Department, "Iaso General" Hospital, Mr. George Tribonias, MD PhD, Gastroenterologist, and ApostolosPapalois, PhD, Biologist, Director of ELPEN's Experimental-Research Center and Visiting Professor at Harvard Medical School. Gastroenterologists Mr. S. Bassioukas, Mr. T. Bech, Mr. D. Christodoulou, Mr. K. Delis, Mr. Τ. Fukuhara, Mr. P. Kassapidis, Mr. H. Kashida, Mr. A.D. Koch, Mr. A. Kofokotsios, Mr. Y. Komeda, Mr. S. Michopoulos, Mr. Μ.Ζ. Panos, Mr. V. Panteris, Mr. Α. Pantes, Mr. G. Stefanidis, Mr. J. Κ. Triantafillidis, Mr. Κ. Triantafyllou, Mr. G. Tribonias, Mr. Ν. Viazis and Mrs. Κ. Paraskeva, as well as Oncologist Mr. P. Michelakos participated in the Seminar as Instructors, Speakers and Coordinators.

The interventional endoscopy techniques presented in the seminar, represent the most advanced, state-of-the art knowledge in the field of Gastroenterology; these included: Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), Endoscopic Sub-mucosal Dissection (ESD), Clipping-Stenting Techniques, Endoscopic Polypectomy and Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM), for which, the 44 trainees were trained through active participation.

The Scientific Head - Organizers of the International Seminar noted that: "The world-renowned scientists from Japan and The Netherlands, astate-of-the-art research Center, as well as ELPEN's highly-qualified scientific personnel made the Seminar an exemplary training model. It is our intention to repeat the Seminar in the future, as we aim at having even more Greek and European Gastroenterologists get the opportunity to have hands-on experience and become familiar with the latest advancements in Interventional Gastroenterology.".
