Offering support to the Greek pharmacists and the Greek pharmacies constitutes a continuous commitment for ELPEN, the pioneer Greek Pharmaceutical Industry. ELPEN was a sponsor at the 1st Pharmaceutical Congress, entitled "Opening the Horizons of the Greek Pharmacy", which was held with great success in Komotini, on the 28th & 29th of May.

ELPEN participated in a round table, entitled "The contribution of all links of the healthcare chain in pharmaceutical care: pharmacists, physicians, pharmaceutical industry, EOPYY". Speakers included Mr. Sotiris Berssimis, President of EOPYY, Mr. Apostolos Valtas, Pharmacist and Vice President A' of PFS, Mr. Dimitris Chatzis, Cardiologist, PhD, Athens Medical School and EAPCI Member, Mr. Hussein Oglu Yulden, Pharmacist and Treasurer of the Pharmaceutical Association of Rodopi, and Mr. Vassilis Pentafragas, ELPEN's Corporate Affairs Director and PEF's Executive Consultant.

The aim of the 1st Pharmaceutical Congress was to highlight the problems in pharmaceutical care and Greek pharmacies, as well as to submit proposals for their handling; this aim fully reflects ELPEN's commitment to a sustainable pharmacy. At times when the pharmaceutical sector is critically hit by the developments in the European financial environment, the Congress's principal subjects pertained to the enhancement of the pharmacist's scientific status and role in primary healthcare.

More than 200 pharmacists attended the Congress, which was addressed to pharmacists from the Prefectures of Serres, Drama, Kavala, Xanthi, Rodopi and Evros, but from other parts of the country as well.

The 1st Pharmaceutical Congress was organized by the Pharmaceutical Associations and the SY.FA. (Pharmacists Cooperative) of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace, under the responsibility of the Pharmaceutical Association of Rodopi, and the auspices of the Pharmaceutical Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Association and IDEEAF.
