From September 29th until October 2nd, 2016, the Mobile Mammography Unit (MMU) of the Hellenic Cancer Society (HCS) visited Georgiou Square, in the city of Patras, where free mammograms were offered to more than 200 women, who belong to vulnerable population groups (unemployed & uninsured). This particular activity runs within the context of the "MAST movement for Breast Cancer!" campaign, which is realized with the kind support of ELPEN Pharmaceutical Industry.

The campaign is being held in numerous cities across the peripheral regions of Greece, while it has already visited the cities of Larissa, Alexandroupolis, Kavala, Xanthi and Mytelene. The purpose of the campaign is to inform about breast cancer prevention and early diagnosis.

The pioneer Greek Pharmaceutical Industry ELPEN has decided to signal its 50 years of continuous involvement in the production and research of innovative drugs, by sponsoring the great work of HCS. Within this context, ELPEN has taken charge of repairing and reopening the MMU, and thereby supports the "MAST movement for Breast cancer!"

This is an action of sincere social contribution on behalf of the sponsoring company, as ELPEN does not produce, nor does it market oncological drugs. In parallel, it is the culmination of a series of social activities that the company has engaged in over many years, thereby proving that healthy business efforts can – and must– offer to our fellow men and the entire society.

Undoubtedly, the inability to access prevention services is a distressing phenomenon in Greece, amidst the current crisis; this is particularly true in the case of breast cancer, which is the most frequent malignancy appearing in Greek women nowadays, with an estimated 5000 new cases emerging every year.

Prevention is even more valuable in the context of breast cancer, since, according to official data, its early diagnosis provides increased chances for complete cure. For this reason, the pioneer Greek Pharmaceutical Industry ELPEN works along with HCS for the materialization of a great vision: to have no woman, who does not prevent breast cancer.
